Local charity Sutton Shopmobility today celebrated their Sutton Community Fund Grant with their launch of Monday openings.

The wheelchair & mobility scooter hire service (based in St Nicholas Centre car park) is now open Monday to Saturday – thanks to funding from the Sutton Community Fund grant.

Joining customers & volunteers at the launch was Sutton’s Mayor Sean Brennan who also unveiled the charity’s refurbished store room that now has a demonstration area for the daily living aids it sells.

The Mayor thanked Sutton Shopmobility for the service it gives to the community. “It is valuable in giving those with mobility issues independence & also a great help for their families.” Mayor Brennan hoped the charity would continue to flourish as well as trying out a mobility scooter for the first time!

Manager of Sutton Shopmobility Amanda Beck added how being open an additional day gives customers more flexibility. “Using our vehicles helps people access shops but customers also use them to volunteer locally, attend classes at SCOLA, and assist with caring duties. Sometimes when customers first use us they have either been housebound or just coming to terms with a life changing condition. The Shopmobility service aims to help keep customers independent for longer, keep them active and reduce loneliness”.
